Introduction

What is Cloud Computing?

According to Wikipedia, Cloud Computing is a paradigm for enabling network access to a scalable and elastic pool of shareable physical or virtual resources with self – service provisioning and administration on demand. In other words, Cloud Computing is the delivery of computing services over the internet on – demand. It allows users to pay for only the services they use and offers benefits such as faster innovation, flexible resources and economics of scale.

Cloud Computing allows you to rent instead of buy your IT. Rather than investing heavily in databases, software and hardware, companies opt to access their compute power via the internet or the cloud, and pay for it as they use it.

There are four types of computing and then there are three types of cloud computing services. The four types of computing include, Private clouds, Public clouds, Hybrid clouds, and Multiclouds.

The three types of cloud computing services include Infrastructure- as – a – service(IaaS), Platform – as – a – service(PaaS), and Software – as – a -service(PaaS).

The Four Types Of Computing

The four types of computing includes:

1. Private Clouds: This is a cloud environment where all cloud infrastructure and computing resources are dedicated to one customer only.
2. Public Clouds: These are cloud environments typically created from IT infrastructure not owned by the end user. Some of the largest public cloud providers include Alibaba Cloud, Amazon Web Services(AWS), Google Cloud, IBM Cloud and Microsoft Azure.
3. Hybrid Clouds: Hybrid clouds are a combination of public and private clouds, which allows data and applications to be shared between them.
4. Multiclouds: Uses two or more clouds from two or more different cloud providers.

Types Of Cloud Computing Services

There are three types of cloud computing services. They include:

1. Infrastructure – as – a – service(IAAS): This is the most basic category of cloud computing services.
2. Platform – as – a – service(PAAS): Platform – as – a – service provides an environment for developing, testing, delivering and managing software applications.
3. Software – as – a – service(SAAS): Software – as – a – service allows users to access cloud based apps over the internet. Examples include emails, calender and office tools.
