Normally people who have experienced this will conclude that the drug is fake,expired,inactive,or even a wrong prescription. Whereas, there are certain foods and fruit that should not be taken along with medicine, or while on medication.
Such meals can prevent your medications from working, or worse still cause dangerous side effects.
Bananas,Grapefruit, Milk,Dairy products – these sounds like the makings of a healthy diet,right?
But what many may not know is that, some foods interact badly with certain drugs. This means that your meal can end up reducing the efficiency of your drugs, or worse still could become your health night mares.
All drugs are metabolized in the liver,of which the liver is rich in iron, and iron is important in the life cycle of malaria parasites. Vitamin c helps in the absorption of iron which goes to the liver. Malaria parasites accumulates in the liver and multiply since the iron they need to survive is surplus there.
This counteracts the effect of whatever malaria drugs taken, avoiding citrus fruits,or supplements when treating malaria is therefore advisable.
Soft drinks contain carbonated water, and carbonated water = carbon-dioxide gas + water , so when you take painkillers and soft drinks together,the carbon-dioxide gas and the acid it contains increases concentration of the drugs in the blood, which leads to toxicity that could be fatal.
Bananas are rich in potassium, and anti hypertensive drugs increases potassium level in the blood. Antihypertensive drugs + Bananas = too much potassium which leads to irregular heartbeat, heart palpitations and could cause diseases such as “ Arrhythmia”.
Drugs are metabolized in the liver, and alcohol also are metabolized in the liver.
You actually over work your liver when you take alcohol while on medication,and this singular action leads to liver damage.
Antibiotics are drugs used in the treatment and prevention of bacteria such as, Tetracycline, and Penicillin. Dairy products are those rich in calcium, which prevents the body from absorbing these antibiotics, thereby reducing the efficacy of the drugs
