DIY Hair Products You Should Know

DIY hair products are the new cool as hair care enthusiasts have become increasingly concerned about what they put in their hair. DIY has a lot of people ditching the chemicals and going for the natural products they can make in their kitchens or bathrooms. These DIY hair products can be tweaked to suit the user and that isn’t the best part, the results are magical and definite. Also, there are little or no side effects, you just might want to try it on your skin, they work great too for skin care.

DIY Hair Mask

You can almost say that DIY hair products work best because you decide what you put in your hair based on what works best for you. These types of hair products are also very affordable because it costs less when you do it yourself! In recent times, the use of hair masks has become increasingly popular. It gives your hair the much-needed moisture and conditioning. It also serves as a protector for your hair and will simply improve your hair health and quality.

There are numerous DIY hair mask recipes in the DIY hair products bank, you can pick your favourite ingredients to make a mask, but here is one great recipe. For this hair mask, you will need an egg, mayonnaise, honey and olive oil. In a clean and dry container simply add one whole egg. Follow it through with 2 tablespoons of mayonnaise, 1 tablespoon of honey and 1 tablespoon of olive oil. At this point, you’ll want to mix or blend all your ingredients till its well combined.

Divide your hair into sections and apply this hair mask for even distribution. The olive oil and honey are present to provide much needed antioxidant protection and moisture to your hair. The mayonnaise feeds your hair follicles with lipids and fatty acids needed for optimal function. Lastly, the eggs strengthen your hair and give your cells the needed protein.

DIY Hair Moisturiser

In everything you do concerning DIY hair products, a moisturiser must be one of them. Luckily for you, a DIY hair moisturiser is very easy to make and can be made with simple ingredients in your home. Well, maybe not all in your home, but some of them can be found in your kitchen or your cosmetic stash. What is great about natural ingredients is that they are multipurpose and just feed you all the good they have to offer.

To make this great DIY hair moisturiser, you will need mainly shea butter and aloe vera, however, you can add any of your favourite essential oils like olive oil, castor oil, jojoba oil, coconut oil etc. To get started, in a clean container or bowl, place your shea butter. Add a good amount of aloe vera gel into the shea butter and add one tablespoon each of your essential oils. Give your ingredients a good mix until it is well combined.

Apply to your scalp and hair for great moisture. All ingredients have antioxidant properties to protect your hair, they also coat the hair and prevent frizz. The best part of it is that these ingredients contain healthy nutrients and fatty acids for your follicles that aid hair growth.

DIY Detangler

This DIY hair product is for the natural hair girls in the house, especially the 4C hair girls. The natural 4C hair is a literal pain in the brain. It hurts to comb, style and detangle if you are not careful, it is dry or you haven’t figured out the best technique. A detangler helps to ease the pain and stress by softening the hair strands, making it easier to comb through and separate.  Not all detanglers may work best for you or your hair type, but not to worry, you can do it yourself.

If you have gone natural and have afro hair, a DIY detangler is a must have DIY hair product in your cabinet. It will save you the pain and prevent you from ripping hair strands from your head. To make your DIY detangler you will need a spray bottle, olive oil or any oil you like, water and a conditioner of your choice, preferably chemical free. 

Get started by adding one or two tablespoons of your oil. It could be more, depending on how much detangler you’re making. Add your conditioner and pour in one part of water. Close your spray bottle and shake! shake! shake! till it’s all combined. When you need to detangle, give your hair a good sprits section by section and comb through. It is important to start combing your hair from the tips and work your way up to the roots to prevent damage and your DIY hair product is served.

DIY Conditioner

A hair conditioner does just what the name implies, it conditions your hair. However, when it is one of your DIY hair products, your DIY conditioner will condition your hair the way you want it to, and give you the lush hair and moisture you desire. You might think your conditioner simply softens your hair but it does more than that. Conditioner protects your hair from any damage that could be caused by hair wraps including towels as hair is vulnerable when wet. As you condition your hair from the roots to the tips, it is important to note that the effects of conditioners, is literally almost instant, but take your time.

If you want to make your own conditioner, you can try this DIY conditioner recipe for coconut milk conditioner. From the name, you should already know the major ingredient, coconut milk. You will need coconut milk, coconut oil, lavender oil and water. In a bowl or container, pour 3 tablespoons of coconut milk, 1 tablespoon of coconut oil, 10 to 15 drops of lavender oil and 3 tables spoons of distilled water. Mix all your ingredients thoroughly and apply to your damp hair after you have shampooed and rinsed it.

Lavender oil is key to boost hair growth and follicle health. It also contains antibacterials which are essential for scalp health. Coconut milk is rich in much-needed vitamins and coconut oil is not just antioxidant rich, it also moisturises your hair and scalp. Best of all, water, water hydrates your hair.
