Daughters of the prestigious Giwa family are caught in a financial scandal with their late parents’ media empire. The scandal forces them to let go of their privileged life and build a future of their own through music and business. The movie which was showing in cinemas mid-summer was written by John-Arthur Ingram, Kay I. Jegede and Pearl Osibu and was directed by Tosin Coker. Moms at War is another hit film directed by the multi-talented Omoni Oboli. The story borders around two mothers living who live in the same neighbourhood but hate each other. One mother perceived her counterpart as a village girl who is new in money and unfit to be in society with them. With their kids coincidentally attend the same school and both emerging top of their class in a competition held in the school, it balls down to one of them. The mothers go above and beyond to get their goal. The comedy-drama reveals friendship, sisterhood, and bonding no matter the odds. Showing in all Cinemas, the hit film stars Funke Akindele and Yul Edochie.

  1. Lion Heartlion heart

Lion Heart is a movie directed by the legendary Genevieve Nnaji and was premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) 2018. The film has also set the record as the first ever Nollywood film to be bought by Netflix. The film centres on Adaeze who steps up to the challenge of filling her father’s shoes and more when health-related issues come knocking. In a male-dominated industry, she must run the company amidst the struggles of being female. The highly anticipated film that is ‘Lion Heart’, was written by Ishaya Bako, Emil B. Garuba and C.J. ‘Fiery’ Obasi. The Lion Heart cast include Genevieve Nnaji, Onyeka Onwenu, Pete Edochie and Nkem Owoh.

The Vendor’ is a comedy-drama directed by the legendary Nollywood actor, Odunlade Adekola. This is one of many films by the actor and was by far one of the most anticipated latest Nollywood movies. The movie depicts Gbadebo being a vendor who looks at low positions with disdain and has high hopes of making something out of his life. He has a humorous personality which endears him to his customers. He goes through different ups and downs in life until he is led to cross paths with an attractive benefactor and finally hits a jackpot when he meets his wealthy biological father. This discovery turns his life around. The movie also stars Adunni Ade, Ireti Osayemi, Jide Kosoko and more.

‘What Just Happened’ is Ufuoma McDermott’s second film as a director. The comedy film is different from others in its category. The film centres on a one-hour journey to Ibadan and how it turned into a long day of disaster when a returnee professor’s superior attitude is tested. During her testimony the in church, the returnee recounts her experience to the congregation and more commotion ensues. Starring in this film are Mike Ezuruonye, Segun Arinze, Toyin Abraham, MC Abbey, Hafeez Oyetoro, Funnybone and Orhorha Jude.

Despite their religious differences, in Mai’Muna, an Igbo man and Hausa woman fall in love in the most hilarious way. Directed by Efe Damijo Young, the movie is showing in cinemas across Nigeria. The film is a comedy-drama and a first of its kind. With Nollywood currently exploring new plots, this film is a step in a good direction. Mai’muna cast include Etomi Okoka, Eyinna Nwigwe, Gbenga Titiloye, I.K Ogbonna, Lisa Omorodion, Yakubu Mohammed.
